What camera traps reveal in the Brazilian Pantanal

𝗢𝘂𝗿 𝗦𝗽𝗲𝗮𝗸𝗲𝗿:
Abigail Martin is a wildlife ecologist, conservationist, and founder of the Jaguar Identification Project, a long-term research initiative focused on jaguar ecology and conservation in Brazil’s Pantanal and Amazon regions. Her work combines field research, citizen science, and storytelling to better understand jaguar behavior and population dynamics. She is currently pursuing a PhD focused on understanding how fire, drought, and tourism shape jaguar populations in the Pantanal. Abigail also works in wildlife film and media and was featured in the documentary Rise of Jaguars.
𝗗𝗲𝘀𝗰𝗿𝗶𝗽𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻:
This year, her talk highlights findings from the project’s large-scale camera trap grid, revealing new insights into jaguar populations, the hidden individuals rarely seen through tourism alone, and the challenges, dangers, and adventures that come with conducting field research in one of the world’s largest wetlands.
