Abigail Martin is a population ecologist, zoologist, and founder of the Jaguar Identification Project, which focuses on monitoring jaguar populations in the Northern Pantanal. Their work combines citizen science, photographic identification, and long-term monitoring to understand jaguar population dynamics and their interactions with tourism and environmental changes. The Project collaborates with local guides, boat drivers, and ecotourism operators to build the largest comprehensive jaguar database monitoring over 400 individuals over the last 12 years, helping to promote conservation strategies based on scientific data.

She recently completed her master’s degree in Ecology and Conservation at the Federal University of Mato Grosso do Sul, with a focus on jaguar responses to extreme climatic events such as drought and wildfire.

Topic: For this webinar she will be sharing some of her findings and how ecotourism can be a powerful tool for jaguar conservation.
